Drawloom Definition

A draw loom is a specialized, multi-harness weaving loom used to create complex, intricate patterns—such as damask, brocade, and images—that are difficult, if not impossible to produce on a standard loom. It works by adding a “draw” mechanism, usually a top-mounted unit with extra pattern shafts or cords, to a traditional floor loom, allowing for individual or grouped control of warp threads. The drawloom is considered the forerunner to the modern Jacquard loom.
